Adobe’s XD team had taken on an ambitious project for the Children’s Creativity Museum in San Francisco. They wanted to build a 8′x16′ interactive wall of 3,864 LEDs, programmed to create a massive wall of 8-bit images. When they initially contacted us, they were in the prototyping phase.Tim Kukulski had built a fantastic mock-up of what they wanted in foam and peg board. They asked us to work with the Adobe team to develop the concept into something real. The primary constraint was the large scale of this piece. It would need to be programmed at Adobe by their team before being transported to the museum. So we built four modular panels that would seamlessly slot together and mount on the wall. Before committing to the design, we built two 2′x8′ prototypes to ensure the grid pattern would align well, and to allow the folks at Adobe to get started programming while we built the final version.
